I previously posted on the blog about my new office and if you follow me on twitter, you’ve heard my rants over the past few weeks as I went through the transformation from kids playroom, to office. I did a post w/this photo a few weeks ago HERE when I first moved in my desk. Brett was thinking I could just work in there while keeping it a playroom. (Haaaa…that’s funny. No thanks.)
Then we began by choosing paint colors….the simple task that seems to bring me nearer to insanity each time I have to do it. I mean, I spend my life working on colors as an artist- you’d think it wouldn’t be so tough.
After having 4 color samples on the walls from orange to forest green I decided on gray, and I completely LOVE it. It’s so minimal, and reminds me of a blank canvas for my creative side.
You may remember the post HERE about my little man who was “helping” me paint. ;)
So I went to Ikea and got the curtains, storage unit, and rug….but the chair I wanted was out of stock. I came home disappointed and decided to temporarily bring up my purple chair that was in the basement. I LOVED it there. I was so inspired by the purple next to the gray, so….I painted the ceiling purple. Bye bye sunshine and clouds!
Now I need help!!! I need a overhead light/chandelier of some sort. Any suggestions?? Also, what to put on the walls?!? Anyone want to share some ideas, links, photos? Purdy please?
I’m thinking a canvas here….
But here maybe something different. A calendar? Organizer? Look at these sad bare walls. They need some love.
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Nicole is an adorable girl I had the pleasure of photographing for her High School Senior portraits. She is bubbly, sweet, and full of life. Being an actress and singer she was extremely easy to photograph since she is used to being in the spotlight. We met up at an outdoor amphitheater and she began by taking the stage. I can’t imagine having the poise and confidence that she has when I was in High School! :)
I love that she brought some of the pieces she is currently working on.
My favorite color fall tree looked just perfect beside her.
Nicole, you are stunning my dear.
“Embrace the moss Nicole.” ;) My favorite.
Adorable, with a capitol “A.”
We played around “my house” which is a home for sale that I have been drooling over for months.
Girl can work it…
Thanks Nicole for choosing us! You were such a pleasure to work with. I wish you all the best in your future, and all that you do. :)
P.S. I am announcing the winner on the post before in a moment. I will add it to that post. :)
Is that an AERON CHAIR?!!! You cannot get rid of it if so (and if it’s a knock-off, it’s VERY convincing!)
I LOVE THIS ROOM!!! Well done Jess!!! It feels very “you”. Warm and inviting!!!
As for that light, how about this:

Spray paint that sucker cream and you’ve got the perfect accent!
First of all, it looks FANTASTIC. I could totally get inspired working in that room. As for wall decor ideas, I strongly suggest some sort of inspiration wall above your computer monitor. Something you can pin photos you love, stuff that gets your creative juices flowing, and something you can always add to as you find new things!
WOW! I love it!!!!!!!!
looks awesome.
grey = stellar :)
If you are looking for some amazing art you need to see: http://www.etsy.com/shop/susiegriffin. She is a local artist and stay at home mom where I live Montana. Her stuff is amazing and comes in many formats.
I think a couple of these would look lovely in this space!

Long time blog reader, first time comment-writer. Hope these fit the bill, not so much chandelier, little more modern design.
Just a few of my fav’s. Keep up the good work by the way!

What a transformation! I love the colors and love that you still have a play space behind the curtains. That’s so nice to still have that area for the kids, but you can close the curtains to hide the toys if you want.
Its perfect! I cant wait to have a house to paint. Hopefully soon!
What an amazing peaceful place to work. Jealous! It’s beautiful. I know it probably sounds cliche but maybe put images up of those loved ones that you make you happiest. Or just some lovely images that keep with the peacefulness your office gives. As far as calendars, I once saw this really cool idea for making calendars using these from photojojo: http://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/fotoclips and have been aching to do it since.
Here’s the link to the perpetual calendar: http://photojojo.com/content/diy/perpetual-photo-calendar/
Wow I like the new grey color and the pictures of your son…
love it! kudos on the purple ceiling, people always forget about the 5th wall-not you! i think you should mix in photography and other kinds of art, and something really really fun too.
so…i want to know how long it takes for one toy to make it back in;);)
Gorgeous colors!! You should put some prints of your favorite photo sessions. :)
oh my you should be come an interior designer. i love your new office and how the purple and gray go together, especially that purple chair. and yeah you should put a canvas on the wall behind that chair. I’m thinking something more personal than just another person’s art.. like family? Good luck! Love your creative side.
Love your new design!
Gorgeous!!! Love the gray/purple combo!!!

Love this idea.
Your room looks great! I love the paint choice and the rug. Great mix of pattern! :)
i love the curtains!!!!!!!! maybe you should put a canvas up of pretty ashley and adam, right after you put their photos on the blog… sounds like a good idea to me…
i’m not eager or anything :-)
This is a fabulous work space! So calming!!!
I’m coming over to work in there! The colors turned out fabulous!
It looks awesome!!!!
jess, i think as far as the big wall goes, you should do one of your stunning family shots there, in canvas portrait-style. a candid one would work so nicely, and it would be a great little daily reminder of what inspires you most of all. as for the chandelier, i can likely help you with the fashioning of something cool – i’m pretty good with light fixtures. :)
it looks wonderful, love.
Buy this immediately!!
